Gan HaShlosha גן השלושה
No visit to Israel is complete without a visit to the Garden of Eden. Seriously, some claim Gan Hashlosha was the original biblical paradise! Time magazine wrote that this is one of the most beautiful parks in the world and one of the world’s most exotic places.
Gan Hashlosha is a series of large deep, teal-blue pools surrounded by palms and green lawns. There are splashing waterfalls, a natural jacuzzi that offers the most ideal shoulder massage, rock pools and a winding river framed by pink oleanders. |
Also known as Sachne, which means hot in Arabic, the thermal waters here are fed by the natural springs of the Amal Stream. They are a perfect 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit) year round, so if you go in the heat of the summer, they feel refreshingly cool and in the crisp winter air, they’re steamy and warm.
This oasis is a one-hour drive south of Tsfat and sits at the foot of Mount Gilboa, close to the town of Beit Shean. |
We arrived early and were in the waters by 8:30 am. The park opens at 8:00 and we highly recommend you get there early to avoid the crowds. Fridays are the busiest days, a time when Israelis come equipped with entire outdoor kitchens and with extended families, turning the place into one huge picnic ground.
Nonetheless, the sound of the splashing waterfalls is very serene and the pools are so massive, you will find a quiet place to relax even when there are crowds. If you like to swim really long lengths, bring a pair of goggles. The water is so clear, you will see fish swimming in and out of underwater caves. Be prepared to get tickled by tiny nibbling fish when you stand still in the water. If you are going with children, bring floaties so they can swim out where it’s deep. There are lifeguard stations all around. |
The park also has an archeological museum that features Greek tools found in the area, some originating from Egypt and Persia.
Located in Tel Amal, a tower and stock community that was constructed in one single night back in 1936. Visitors can climb the tower and see rooms originating from the original pioneers.
Next door is Gan Garoo, an Australian themed wildlife park with, you got it, kangaroos, wallabies and koalas.

If you can pull yourself away from this Garden of Eden, you may want to also drive the scenic road up Har Gilboa or visit the Beit Shean Archeological Park, both worthwhile side trips.
